How to set up and manage mathematical learning experiences document

  1. Technology – Educators need to be able to connect with the students of the 21st century to be able to engage them in learning (Chalich, 2018)
  2. Inclusive Learning Environment – “Inclusive teaching address the needs of students with a variety of backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities. These strategies contribute to an overall inclusive learning environment, in which students feel equally valued.” (CTE, 2018)
  3. The overall goal of the lesson – “Effective teaching of mathematics establishes clear goals for the mathematics that students are learning, situates goals within learning progressions, and uses the goals to guide instructional decisions.” (NCTM, 2018)
  4. A connection of the content to the student – “Effective teaching of mathematics engages students in making connections among mathematical representations to deepen understanding of mathematics concepts and procedures and as tools for problem-solving. (NCTM, 2018)
  5. Understanding of the ways to solve the problem – “The more strategies and approaches that students are exposed to, the deeper their conceptual understanding of the topic becomes.” (Beyranevand, 2018)
  6. Communication – “In order for a teacher to determine if every student truly understands the objective each student needs to be able to communicate both orally and in writing” (Beyranevand, 2018)
  7. Varied approaches to learning – “It is important for educators to understand the differences in their students’ learning styles so that they can implement best practice strategies into their daily activities, curriculum and assessments.” (Teach, 2018)
  8. Questioning to promote further analysis – “Effective teaching of mathematics uses purposeful questions to assess and advance students’ reasoning and sense-making about important mathematical ideas and relationships” (NCTM, 2018)
  9. Discussion – “Class discussions offer students opportunities to test their ideas and opinions against the ideas and opinions of their peers.” (University of Pittsburgh, 2018)
  10. Evaluation – “Evaluation is used by the teacher to provide feedback to students and to check for understanding in the teaching and learning process. (The Alberta Teachers’ Association, 2018)
